    Friockheim Health Centre ask all patients with coronavirus related concerns OR a new cough, fever or shortness of breath to consult www.nhsinform.scot for advice. If you are unwell please phone the Practice first. Do not enter the building. All appointments are being allocated on the day and will not be bookable in advance. We can assure you the practice is still open and fully staffed, but we need to keep the waiting area as safe as possible for all patients.

    But by visiting your pharmacy instead, you could save yourself time and trouble. Instead of booking and waiting for a GP appointment, you can visit your local pharmacist any time – just walk in.

    Types of consultations

    We are currently offering telephone, video and face to face (if deemed necessary by the GPs) consultations. 

    Please discuss with the receptionist if you feel a video consultation would be beneficial.  You would require access to a smart phone, tablet/ipad, computer/laptop, as long as it has a camera and microphone.  The video consultation link is available below and is only available with a prebooked appointment.  When you click on the link below you will be put into a virtual waiting area and then the clinician will connect from there.


    General Appointments Information

    To make an appointment, telephone, book online or call in at the health centre. The receptionist will try to make an appointment with the doctor of your choice. You are welcome to make an appointment to see any doctor in the practice.

    Urgent (Same Day) Appointments

    If urgent, you will be seen the same day, although this may be with another doctor if your own is unavailable. Appointments are normally 10 minutes in length with the doctors. If you require longer, please ask reception.

    Telephone Consultations

    These are used when you perhaps need to speak to a doctor or nurse, but don’t require a face to face consultation.  These appointments are usually at the end of morning surgery and start of afternoon surgery.

    Self Referring

    Podiatry, physiotherapy and continence services allow patients to self refer.  If you feel you require any of these services ask at reception and the staff will give you a form to complete which the practice can then send to the appropriate department for you.

    Why does the receptionist need to ask what's wrong with me?

    It is not a case of the receptionists being nosey!

    The reception staff are members of the practice team and it has been agreed they should ask patients ‘why they need to be seen’. Reception staff are trained to ask certain questions in order to ensure that you receive:

    • the most appropriate medical care
    • from the most appropriate health professional
    • at the most appropriate time

    If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. Alternatively bring along a member of your family or friend to your appointment.

    Did Not Attend (DNA) Policy

    The practice does have a policy of following up patients who do not attend appointments.  If you do not attend two appointments within a year you will receive a letter from the practice. After a further DNA another letter will be issued. Following that, if one more DNA occurs you will be removed from the practice list.

    Cancelling an Appointment

    If you are unable to attend for your appointment please tell us in good time so that we are able to offer another patient the use of that appointment.

    You can use one of the following methods:

    1. Cancel Online using Patient Services:
      If you booked your appointment using Patient Services, cancel it here.
    2. By Telephone:
      Please call us on 01241 828 444 and tell the receptionist.
    3. In Person: Call into your surgery and let the receptionist know in person.

    We can offer your appointment to someone else and therefore help to reduce waiting times.

    As part of our commitment to all our patients we monitor the efficient use of appointments. If a patient regularly fails to attend a booked appointment, the practice reserves the right to remove them and their family from the practice list.
